Emilie de Ravin: biography
It’s an interesting fact: the majority of the Hollywood stars – aren’t Americans by the nationality. Vincent Cassel and Marion Cotillard are French, Benedict Cumberbatch and Emma Watson are British, and Oleg Stefan and Olga Kurylenko are Ukrainian. However, the major actors are Australians in Hollywood, among them Mel Gibson, Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and, of course, Emilie de Ravin – the star of the adventure fantasy series Once Upon a Time.
Childhood and youth
Emilie was born on the 27th of December of 1981 in the small town of Mount-Eliza situated in the State of Victoria near Melbourne – the second biggest Australian city. Emilie de Ravin became the third and the last daughter of her parents.
Her attractive appearance obliges the girl to her parents who came from France and Great Britain.
In 1990 de Ravin became the pupil of Christa Cameron School of Ballet after the completion of which she entered the Australian ballet school. However, the girl didn’t’ spend a long time in this higher education institution and preferred to it the National Institute of drama art in Kensington, located in the suburbs of Sydney.
Later, when she relocated to Los Angeles, Emilie continued to study acting in Prime Time Actors Studio.
Movies and series
De Ravin had her debut in the fantasy series The Beastmaster featuring Daniel Goddard, Steven Grives and Monika Schnarre. The series was shot in the native country of the girl.
At the beginning of 2000, there was released the fantastic youth series Roswell on the TV screens. At that time little popular young artists Katherine Heigl and Colin Hanks (one of Tom Hanks's sons) and also William Sadler, better known for the audience, appeared.
In 2002 Emilie de Ravin performed a role of the bully Chris Hargensen in the second screen adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Carrie (the first part was shot by Brian De Palma from Sissy Spacek, and the third one by Kimberly Pierce with Chloë Grace Moretz). David Carson became the director of this movie (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Beverly Hills, 90210, The Dresden Files), and Angela Bettis performed the role of Carrie White.
The same year Emilie appeared in the episode CSI: Miami - the well-known detective series featuring David Caruso, Emily Procter, and Adam Rodriguez.
In 2004 millions of the spectators all around the world were in front of the screens because there was broadcast the fantastic series Lost directed by J.J.Abrams. The series has become cult and presented a number of great artists to the movie industry: Matthew Fox, Michelle Rodriguez, Ian Somerhalder, Evangeline Lilly, Dominic Monaghan, Josh Holloway and, of course, Emilie de Ravin. After the role of Claire Littleton, the actress was noticed by the Hollywood producers.
In 2005 the actress took part in the psychological thriller with the detective elements under the title Brick. The movie was directed by Rian Johnson (The Brothers Bloom, Looper), and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Nora Zehetner and Lukas Haas performed major roles.
A year later Emilie took part in the remake of the horror movie The Hills Have Eyes directed by Wes Craven. Alexandre Aja appeared as the director of this new movie (Haute Tension, Mirrors, Horns). In 2009 de Ravin appeared in the television sports drama The Perfect Game directed by William Deere (School of Life, Midnight Stallion).
The same year there was also released the movie Public Enemies directed by Michael Mann (Manhunter, The Grey, Collateral). This picture is the crime drama based on the biography of the truly existing American gangster John Dillinger. Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, and Jason Clarke performed the leading roles in this movie
The next year Emilie appeared in the melodrama Remember Me directed by Allen Coulter (The X-Files, Sons of Anarchy and House of Cards) together with Robert Pattinson, Chris Cooper, and Pierce Brosnan.
Since 2011 de Ravin takes part in the adventure fantasy series Once upon a Time. Also. In this series, the audience can see Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jared Gilmore, and Lana Parrilla. In this series, Emilie got the role of the beautiful Belle.
In 2014 the actress performed the main role in the movie The Submarine Kid directed by her boyfriend, Eric Bilitch. According to the plot, the girl called Alice helps the participant of military activities in Afghanistan to recover and return to the peaceful life.
During the period from 2003 till 2013, Emilie was married to the actor Josh Janowicz (The Chumscrubber, On the Doll, Collateral).
In 2014 Emilie began to have relations with the director Eric Bilitch. On the 12th of March, Emilie gave birth to their daughter Vera Audrey de Ravin-Bilitch. At once after the childbirth Emilie and Eric became engaged.

The series Once Upon a Time is still among the most watched series, what allows the actress not to look for other projects and to do her best in the image of Belle. Though, it’s difficult to tell where Emilie does her best - at home, being engaged in the upbringing of her daughter or on the movie set of the series.
